After joining the Norwegian Polar Institute for a research cruise to the Central Arctic Ocean I decided to make a visor commemorating the trip. One of the reasons I was able to join them was their commitment to collaboration with other arctic communities, so I decided to make this as a gift. I thought it was a cool way to show an Unungan visor with artwork based on the trip and the icebreaker, the RV Kronprins Haakon. I tried to make the colors similar to the sea ice and water that we saw on the trip, with traditional Eastern Aleutian Unungan designs with the wave motif, geometric star, and the volutes. The polar bear on the front of the visor is based on the same design on the front of the Kronprins Haakon.
