White Sands National Park
IWhite Sands National Park was one of the best afternoons of a road/work trip through southern New Mexico. We were driving from Carlsbad to Las Cruces and I wasn’t sure if we were going to be able to spend much time at White Sands that night so we kept going and stayed at Las Cruces, then backtracked the next day to go sledding on the sand dunes. We spent the afternoon driving the 8 mile road through the dunes, and stopping to go sledding at ones that looked steep enough. It almost felt like snow, which being from Alaska is something we were used to, but we weren’t used to it being 100 degrees out while we went sledding. The sand dunes were a bright white, contrasted with the bright blue sky. I wished that we had stopped the night before and watched sunset over the dunes because I imagine it would have been spectacular.
